VERITAS Backup Exec Agent는 TCP 포트 10000 번에 접속대기하고 있으면서 백업되어 지는 시스템 상에 가동된다. 또한 백업이 일어날 때 백업 서버로부터의 접속들을 받아들이는 역할을 한다.
