해당 Backup Exec Remote Agent는 비인가된 원격 액세스 취약점에 취약하다. VERITAS Backup Exec는 네트워크 백업을 지원하는 데이터 백업 및 복구 솔루션이다. VERITAS Backup Exec Agent는 TCP 포트 10000 번에 접속대기하고 있으면서 백업되어 지는 시스템 상에 가동된다. 또한 백업이 일어날 때 백업 서버로부터의 접속들을 받아들이는 역할을 한다. Windows Server 8.6에서 10.0까지의 VERITAS Backup Exec, NetWare Server 9.0와 9.1을 위한 Backup Exec, 그리고 NetWare Media Server Option 4.5에서 5.1까지의 NetBackup은 NDMP(Network Data Management Protocol)로부터의 인증 시에 고정된 패스워드를 사용한다. 이는 원격지의 공격자가 백업 서버에 있는 임의의 파일들을 읽거나 쓸 수 있게 해 준다.
