| Detailed Description |
The hotfix (Q269239) for the "NetBIOS Name Server Protocol Spoofing" problem has not been applied. The NetBIOS Name Server (NBNS) protocol does not perform authentication, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service. A remote attacker can send a spoofed NetBIOS Name Conflict message to the NetBIOS name service that would cause the system to release its name on the network. This prevents other computers on the network from requesting services from the system.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
* Platforms Affected: Microsoft Windows NT, 2000
