Detailed Description The Hotfix(Q832483) for 'Buffer overflow vulnerability(2) in a component of MDAC' has not been applied. Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) is a collection of components that are used to provide database connectivity on Windows platforms. When a client system on a network tries to see a list of computers that are running SQL Server and that reside on the network, it sends a broadcast request to all the devices that are on the network. However, because of an unchecked buffer in a specific MDAC component, MDAC dose not properly check the validation of data within response packet. By responding to the request with a specially crafted packet, a remote attacker can cause a buffer overflow. It results that a remote attacker can gain control over the system and take any action that the legitimate process executing MDAC could take such reformatting the hard disk, re-configuring the system, and so on.

* Note: This check requires an account with administrative privileges which can log into the host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
