| Detailed Description |
The hotfix(KB839643) for the 'Vulnerability in DirectPlay Could Allow Denial of Service' has not been applied. A denial of service vulnerability exists in the implementation of the IDirectPlay4 application programming interface (API) of Microsoft DirectPlay because of a lack of robust packet validation. Applications that implement this API are typically network-based multi-player games. If a user is running a networked DirectPlay application, an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could cause the DirectPlay application to fail. The user would have to restart the application to resume functionality.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
