| Detailed Description |
The Hotfix(KB888113) for 'Vulnerability in Hyperlink Object Library' has not been applied. The Object Library is a dynamic application interface library used by Windows programs to manage hyperlink objects. Hyperlink objects are any COM objects (including ActiveX) that implement the Ihlink interface. Microsoft Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2000, and Windows XP could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by improper bounds checking in the Hyperlink Object Library when handling hyperlinks. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by persuading a user to open a malicious hyperlink hosted in a Web site or click on a link in an HTML email message. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could execute arbitrary code on an affected system.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
