| Detailed Description |
The hotfix (885881) for 'Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in SMTP' has not been applied. The SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) component of Microsoft Windows XP 64-bit Edition, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 64-bit Edition, and the Exchange Routing Engine component of Exchange Server 2003 are a buffer overflow vulnerability when processing responses to DNS lookups. By sending a specially-crafted DNS response message, a remote attacker could execute arbitrary code on the system in the context of the vulnerable service.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
