Class SMB
Detailed Description The hotfix (KB896422) for 'Code Execution Vulnerability in SMB' has not been applied. Microsoft HTML Help is the standard help system for the Windows platform. Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003 could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by a buffer overflow vulnerability in the Server Message Block (SMB) implementation. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary machine code in the context of the kernel containing the vulnerable code. The attacker can utilize broadcast UDP packets to attack many computers simultaneously, as well as to obfuscate the source of attacks. Failed exploit attempts will likely crash the affected computer, denying service to legitimate users. This vulnerability could also allow a remote attacker to potentially crash all affected computers in a broadcast domain.

* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
