Detailed Description The hotfix (KB904706) for 'Code Execution Vulnerability in DirectShow' has not been applied. Microsoft DirectShow is used for streaming media on Microsoft Windows operating systems. Microsoft DirectX 7.0, 8.0, 8.0a, 8.1, 8.1a, 8.1b, 8.2, 9.0, 9.0a, 9.0b, and 9.0c could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by a buffer overflow in DirectShow. Any anonymous user who could deliver a specially crafted .avi file to the affected system could try to exploit this vulnerability. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could remotely take complete control of an affected system. An attacker could also exploit this vulnerability by hosting it on a Web site and persuading the victim to open the file.

* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
