Detailed Description |
The hotfix (KB908531) for 'Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in the Windows Explorer' has not been applied. Microsoft Windows Explorer could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected host, caused by improper handling of COM objects. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by hosting a Web site containing a malformed COM object and then persuading a potential victim to visit the site or sending an HTML e-mail containing a malicious link to a potential victim.
* Note: This check requires an account with administrative privileges which can log into the host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
