Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS06-035, KB917159) for 'Vulnerability in Server Service' has not been applied. Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 are vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the Mailslot Server driver (srv.sys). By sending a specially-crafted network packet to an affected host, a remote attacker could execute arbitrary code on the host. In addition to this vulnerability, A vulnerability in the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol driver could also allow an attacker to obtain portions of the memory of the affected host.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
