Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS06-065, KB924496) for 'Vulnerability in Windows Object Packager' has not been applied. Windows Object Packager in Microsoft XP SP1 and SP2, and Server 2003 up to SP1 could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the host, caused by improper handling of file extensions that would cause file extensions to be misrepresented. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by constructing a malicious Web page that could potentially allow an attacker to save a file on the user's system if a user visited a malicious Web site or viewed a malicious e-mail message. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
