Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS07-051, KB938827) for 'Remote Code Execution Vulnerability in Microsoft Agent' has not been applied. Microsoft Windows 2000 could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected host, caused by a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the Agent.Control function of the Microsoft Agent ActiveX control (agentdpv.dll). An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by constructing a specially-crafted Web page that could potentially allow remote code execution if a user visits a malicious Web site or opens an e-mail message with malicious content. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
