Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS08-002, KB941644) for 'Local Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability in LSASS' has not been applied. The Windows Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) is a process that enforces the local security policy. Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2, and Server 2003 SP1 and SP2 are vulnerable to an elevation of privilege vulnerability, caused by improper handling of local procedure call (LPC) requests in the Microsoft Windows LSASS. A local attacker could exploit this vulnerability using a specially-crafted local procedure call (LPC) request to execute arbitrary code on the system with SYSTEM privileges.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
