Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS08-005, KB942831) for 'Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability in IIS' has not been applied. Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) could allow a local attacker to gain elevated privileges on the system, caused by improper handling of file change notifications in the FTPRoot, NNTPFile\Root, and WWWRoot folders. By uploading a specially-crafted script to an affected IIS server, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code in the context of local system.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
