Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS08-023, 948881) for 'Security Update of ActiveX Kill Bits' has not been applied. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 SP4 and 6 SP1 could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by multiple buffer overflow vulnerabilities in HxTocCtrl ActiveX control (hxvz.dll). By persuading a victim to visit a malicious Web site, a remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user running the affected application or cause the application to crash.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
