Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS08-028, KB950749) for 'Vulnerability in Microsoft Jet Database Engine' has not been applied. Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2, Server 2003 SP1 are vulnerable to a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability, caused by improper bounds checking when parsing a MDB file in Microsoft Jet 4.0 Database Engine (msjet40.dll). By sending a specially-crafted MDB file as an email attachment or by hosting it on a Web site, a remote attacker could cause the victim's application to crash or possibly execute arbitrary code on the victim's system with the privileges of the victim.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
