Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS08-033, KB951698) for 'Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities in DirectX' has not been applied. Microsoft Windows DirectX could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code on the system, caused by improper handling of AVI (Audio Video Interleave) and ASF (Advanced Systems Format) media files, and SAMI (Synchronized Accessible Media Interchange) files. By persuading a victim to open a specially-crafted ASF, AVI, MPEG or SAMI file, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the system with the privileges of the victim.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
