Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS08-046, KB952954) for 'Vulnerability in Microsoft Windows Image Color Management System' has not been applied. Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2 and SP3, and Server 2003 SP1 and SP2 are vulnerable to a heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability, caused by improper bounds checking by the InternalOpenColorProfile() function in the Microsoft Color Management System (MSCMS) module (mscms.dll) of the Microsoft ICM component. By convincing a victim to open a specially-crafted image file, a remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on the affected system.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
