Detailed Description |
The hotfix (MS08-050, 955702) for 'Information Disclosure Vulnerability in Windows Messenger' has not been applied. Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, XP SP2 and SP3, and Server 2003 SP1 and SP2 could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by a vulnerability in the Messenger.UIAutomation.1 ActiveX control being marked "safe-for-scripting" in Windows Messenger 4.7 and 5.1. By convincing a victim to visit a malicious Web site, an attacker could exploit this vulnerability to obtain the victim's contact information, initiate audio and video chat sessions without user interaction, and obtain the victim's logon ID, which could then be used to log on to the victim's Messenger client.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
