Detailed Description |
The hotfix (2511455) for 'Vulnerabilities in SMB Client Could Allow Remote Code Execution' has not been applied. This security update resolves one publicly disclosed vulnerability and one privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Windows. The more severe of these vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if an attacker sent a specially crafted SMB response to a client-initiated SMB request. To exploit the vulnerability, an attacker must convince the user to initiate an SMB connection to a specially crafted SMB server.
The security update addresses the vulnerabilities by correcting the manner in which the CIFS Browser handles specially crafted Browser messages, and correcting the manner in which the SMB client validates specially crafted SMB responses.
* Note: This check requires an account with administrative privileges which can log into the host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
