Detailed Description |
The Hotfix (MS15-003, 3021674) for 'Vulnerability in Windows User Profile Service Could Allow Elevation of Privilege' has not been applied. This security update resolves a publicly disclosed vulnerability in Microsoft Windows. The vulnerability could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker logs on to the system and runs a specially crafted application. A local attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could run arbitrary code on a target system with elevated privileges. An attacker must have valid logon credentials and be able to log on locally to exploit the vulnerability.
- Microsoft User Profile Service Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability (CVE-2015-0004) An elevation of privilege vulnerability exists in how the Windows User Profile Service (ProfSvc) validates user privilege. An authenticated attacker who successfully exploits the vulnerability could leverage the Windows User Profile Service (ProfSvc) to load registry hives associated with other user accounts and potentially execute programs with elevated permissions. The security update addresses the vulnerability by correcting how the Windows User Profile Service validates user privileges to load registry hives.
* Note: This check requires an account with administrative privileges which can log into the host to scan. Absence of this condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
