Detailed Description |
The Hotfix (MS15-057, 3033890) for 'Vulnerability in Windows Media Player Could Allow Remote Code Execution' has not been applied. This security update resolves a vulnerability in Microsoft Windows. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if Windows Media Player opens specially crafted media content that is hosted on a malicious website. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system remotely. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
- Windows Media Player RCE via DataObject Vulnerability(CVE-2015-1728) A remote code execution vulnerability exists in the way that Windows Media Player handles specially crafted DataObjects. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system remotely. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
* Note: This check requires an account with administrative privileges which can log into the host to scan. Absence of this condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
