Detailed Description |
The Hotfix (MS15-113, 3104519) for 'Cumulative Security Update for Microsoft Edge' has not been applied. This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Edge. The most severe of the vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user views a specially crafted webpage using Microsoft Edge. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerabilities could gain the same user rights as the current user. Customers whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than those who operate with administrative user rights.
Multiple Microsoft Edge Memory Corruption Vulnerabilities Multiple remote code execution vulnerabilities exist when Microsoft Edge improperly accesses objects in memory. The vulnerabilities could corrupt memory in such a way that an attacker could execute arbitrary code in the context of the current user.
Microsoft Browser ASLR Bypass - CVE-2015-6088 A security feature bypass exists when Microsoft Edge fails to use the Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) security feature, allowing an attacker to more reliably predict the memory offsets of specific instructions in a given call stack. An attacker who successfully exploited it could bypass the Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) security feature, which helps protect users from a broad class of vulnerabilities. The security feature bypass by itself does not allow arbitrary code execution. However, an attacker could use this ASLR bypass in conjunction with another vulnerability, such as a remote code execution vulnerability, to more reliably run arbitrary code on a target system.
* Note: This check requires an account with administrative privileges which can log into the host to scan. Absence of this condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.

Recommendation |
Apply the appropriate patch(3104519) for your system, as listed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-113 at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/security/ms15-113 -- OR -- Patches for Windows platforms are also available from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Windows Update detects what version of Windows you are running and offers the appropriate patch. |
