| Detailed Description |
The Windows Auto Update service is disabled. Automatic updates in Windows XP (Home/Professional Edition) and Windows 2000 (Service Pack 3 or higher) ensure that Windows and its installed components are always running with the most current patches, fixes, and updates to date. With Automatic Update enabled, your Windows system checks Windows Update for the latest updates whenever you are on the Internet, determines which updates apply to your computer, and downloads them in the background while you continue working, undisturbed. If the Update Service is turned off, then neither the computer nor its users are notified when updates are available and ready to install.
* Note: This check requires an account with Guest or upper privileges which can access the registry of the remote host to scan. Absence of these condition will result in the check not being performed and a False Negative for all vulnerable hosts.
* Platforms Affected: Windows 2000 SP3 Windows XP Any version Windows Server 2003 Any version |
